...meat.
...ice cream.
...chocolate cake.
Since making the switch to veganism, this is one of the most common things I hear. Who are these people, and why do they have such little confidence in their eating skills? Surely, I'm no one special. When I gave up animal products, I too was addicted to chocolate cake, Easy Mac, and that devil food... cheese. Cheese, after all, is packed with casein, an addictive protein in cow's milk that keeps baby cows coming back for more. In fact, of all the animal products, it is always cheese that folks have the most trouble letting go. But it's far from impossible. And what kind of lives are we leading when we ask ourselves moral questions ("Should I stop allowing animals to be tortured for my food?") and give entirely selfish answers ("It sounds hard to not eat cheese") ?
For those of you just now considering giving up animal products, I present to you a list of the delicious foods I have eaten just this week:
- Yellow thai curry with tofu and vegetables
- Vegan s'mores
- Homemade spaghetti with steamed spinach and soy mushroom meatballs
- Homemade tacos with refried beans, tofu sour cream, lettuce, tomato, bell pepper, and homemade guacamole
- Vegan peanut butter fudge
- Homemade mac and cheez with broccoli and red bell pepper
- Aloo palak (Indian dish with potatoes and spinach)
- Chana masala (Indian dish with garbanzo beans and spices)
- Baked potato with tofu sour cream, Earth Balance (vegan butter), onions and fake bacon
- Tossed salad with sweet miso dressing
- French fries with garlic and onion powder
